What Does It Mean Going Beyond the Barrier?

The barrier as I see it are the five senses and the personality. To go beyond the barrier, we begin to learn from our own higher Self, through observation and the developing awareness and connection with the Source. Instead of solely using the physical senses, our spiritual senses become activated. As an example, it is through the spiritual eardrum that we hear and are able to discern truth. Part of the awakening process is the growing strength of our intention. A change occurs when the intention to receive is turned around into an intention to give. I have mentioned this before as well as suggesting that some good souls go overboard and primarily give and in the process do not take time for receiving. This is the not the norm. It does happen and that is why I am repeating this possibility. The state of selfless giving happens when we are close to the point of the heart. It is like a slug asking a rose bush how it can give so much. The rose replies by mentioning the joy of the sun and the rain and the simple act of giving beauty for the sheer pleasure of it.

People have always wondered how to reconcile the concept of free will with the existence of a greater power...the Source, our Creator. Many scriptures mention that it is the Creator's singular desire for you and me to be fulfilled and made joyful.
This actually cannot happen in its fullness until we reach a similar state of mind. In other words, our desire to enjoy is equal to the Creator's desire to give enjoyment. It is a circular movement. We have to choose this state of mind because it feels good. We choose it of our own free will. No one or no organization is forcing us. It is not something we must do. The soul evolves and independently feels and acts from this inner understanding.

Most people act compulsively. Either we are guided by pleasure or pain. The attraction to enjoy pleasure and avoid pain is what controls humans, animals and even plant life. To be like the Creator, it is necessary to be completely neutral. To be like the Creator, we are required to go beyond the barriers of the senses, attain detachment (with compassion) and take control over the inner environment as well as the environment we live in.

Time Travel

We can only know ourselves in relationship to the present moment. How we act, feel and think in the reality of the moment reveals a part of us, which is primarily the ego. Our gestures, words, and expressions in our moment to moment relationship with life are the mirror in which we can see ourselves. If we are endlessly becoming something regardless of what it is, we are never fully present are we? The present is either filled with thoughts about the past or hopes and dreams for the future.

We are masters of time travel. We either are looking back or thinking about future realities. This is the way most people think and feel. People are seldom in the present. Sometime, take a few minutes of quiet time and watch where your mind goes. What lives in the present is your spirit, the higher Self. This is one of the many reasons so many of us meditate. Absolute quiet is one method of feeling the present. Breath work, chanting mantras and looking at a candle are other methods used in rediscovering and living from the perspective of the higher eternal Self.

Because we divide life into past, present and future, reality is not fully understood. There are some people who teach that neither the past, present or future are reality. They claim it is all one big illusion. I disagree with them. The illusion is in believing that only what we see, feel, hear and know with our senses is the one and only reality. What we experience in a physical body in a material world is very real while we are in it. Try and tell someone who doesn't have food to eat or is in extreme pain or fear that they are living an illusion. An illusion is the ongoing process of becoming something we judge we are not and not understanding our spiritual identity. Time traveling back and forth in the mind is primarily a focus on the personality and not the real Self.

Looking at Suffering

Although Jesus suffered, he did not have to. He chose his path. The path happened to be during a time of great spiritual ignorance and turmoil. His choice came from an inner well of deep understanding. He understood that the spiritually ignorant live in fear, despise change and resist responsibility for their own actions. He knew that the common energy was barbaric and that barbarians kill. That was his sacrifice. To place his sublime consciousness in a field of muck and mud.

Suffering is not required by law to evolve although that is the typical program most souls choose. Understanding truth and being the light is the answer. Through deep understanding, compassion, discernment, unlimited possibilities and a love for the creative act of simply being who we are molds the thinking mind so it may receive truth and digest it correctly. The thinking part of the mind becomes a receptable for unconditional love and infinite wisdom.

From the human point of view, I am well aware of the challenges that exist for souls who have attained a measure of inner peace and have already awakened love, goodness and balance within. We watch suffering. Those whom we love may be neglectful of personal consciousness or have ongoing disorder in their lives. It is then that we must train our own mind to be compassionate but yet detached. Everyone is not on the same time table to develop and control his or her senses and experiences. If you live in this type of situation, focus on your own center remembering that you too had to learn through effort how to achieve and sustain a state of equanimity as your initiation into Buddha or Christhood.
